This scheme was selected through an international competition organized by the City of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, as part of a broader masterplan to improve pedestrian and cycling connections across the downtown district. The 600-meter route links a public park to the city across local streets and a six-lane highway, incorporating an existing overpass. The design responds to the route as a sequence of park, highway, and city conditions. Its central gesture is a double suspension span with a deliberately slender deck profile, supported by inclined masts and an asymmetric cable system. Changes in alignment, structure, and section register the shifting scale and visual intensity of the surroundings, while widened areas create moments to pause and overlook the city. Structure, enclosure, and detailing were developed as a single architectural system, balancing a strong civic presence with transparency, lightness, and a sense of movement. The project was developed in collaboration with TH Thai & Associates. As principal designer, I led the work from the initial competition phase through construction documentation, including concept design, design development, coordination with engineers and consultants, client presentations, detailing, and oversight of the drawing sets.
